Three Principles for Catalysing Prayer
From 24-7Wiki
In 2007 24-7 Prayer felt the challenge to live up to its name or change it. To keep prayer at the centre of all we do and to continue to pursue depth and spread the vision of a lifestyle of connectedness to God. The International Prayer Team came up with three principles that help catalyse prayer in a city or nation.
Principle One – Prayer
Healthy personal prayer lives and prayer within teams, prayer cover for all your doing is the largest catalyst to seeing 24-7 Prayer spread. We like to model what we promote and often things spread in God’s timing.
The International Prayer Team manage a Prayer Shield with over 40 intercessors supporting the international team and movement in prayer with monthly updates. We encourage each member of the teams, whatever their role (speaker, accountant or merchandiser) to have at least three friends commit to cover them in prayer and we are looking into the possibility of forming an emergency prayer chain for the people and needs of the movement.
Questions for everyone to consider:
- Who supports you personally in prayer?
- How do does your team pray together?
- How do you respond to strategic or urgent prayer requests in and for your nation?
Principle Two – Networking
It works! Getting people together, spreading the word, sharing the vision and building momentum within a nation or area raises the profile of prayer. People have done this through media (websites, text messages, emails, social networking tools), tours, gathering points, publications, visiting, hospitality and the telling of stories. The method of networking can depend on the size of the geography you are attempting to connect.
Principle Three – Resourcing
Our approach to catalysing and supporting prayer needs to be strategic, dynamic and team led. We need to draw together people with different skills as the movement continues through prayer rooms into other expressions, rhythms and prayer dependant lifestyles. The International Prayer Team suggests that the three kinds of gifting/skills needed in a prayer catalysing and resourcing team include:
- A Sales person >>>Who can ‘sell’ the vision to a broad spectrum of people to spread prayer
- A Secretary >>> Who can faithfully and consistently send resources and contact prayer groups.
- A Specialist >>> Who can respond to a prayer groups desire to go deeper in prayer. Able to advise on different kinds of prayer and point people to useful resources and organisations.
Each of these principles need to be interpreted in your context.
