The International Communities Team

Areas of Work & Priorities

The scope of responsibilities for the team include the following:

The team operates as champions of: · The Values and DNA of 247 Communities. · Vision, what we see the Communities becoming. · Methodology, how the Communities are being shaped.

The priorities of the team for this year (2007) will be (agreed at ILT in April):

1. Establishing and developing the team. 2. Establishing 5 Boiler Room Centre’s and how those places can help resource, plant and train others. 3. Conducting a review and evaluation of training 4. Holding some Boiler Room Open Days

We recognize that there will be a form of relationally based oversight role in some of the work we do. Sometimes this may involve helping to broker a situation, sometimes a consultancy role, sometimes affirming or thinking through how values are being applied.

Specifically the team will help to:

Encourage

· Encourage expression of the values and principles, whether it be encouraging mission or providing a challenge to act. · Encourage co-operation across Communities and nations, to serve the poor, in areas of creativity or in any of the other practices.

Release

· Release mission and community planting by responding to initiative from local communities, encouraging and supporting dreams and visions, and providing help and consultancy where it’s helpful.

(Note – we didn’t believe it was the role of the Communities team to ignite planting or mission. It has to come from people and local communities, rather than be a strategy or plan implemented by us).

Connect

a. Connecting different Communities to encourage cross-pollenisation and local diversity. We want to encourage and help connections in regions, nations and globally. b. Connecting the individual communities, the one’s and two’s and particularly looking to connect those who feel lonely or isolated with others. c. Connecting with National teams, in particular with those who are involved with communities. d. Connecting teams together to plant new Boiler Rooms or establish new projects, where requested and/or in connection with National teams.

Fuel

a. Fueling Communities by encouraging and helping to facilitate training. The team will look at how training works globally. b. Fueling Communities through thinking and working through theology or issues around the values and DNA. These might develop into resources of some kind, where needed. c. Fueling Communities through visiting or connecting others to visit communities (both large and small). By inviting leaders to our meetings and try and hold our face to face gatherings in the midst of communities. d. Fueling Communities through stories, ensuring the stories of good news and also of disappointment get equal exposure.
