Sickness and Absence Reporting Procedures


If you are unable to come to work for any reason, you must inform 24-7 Prayer by contacting your line manager at least one hour before the time you would normally be due to start work on the first day of absence. You should indicate the reason for your absence and its likely duration. In the event that your absence continues for a number of days or weeks, you must maintain regular contact with 24-7 Prayer to keep us informed of the reasons for your ongoing absence and the date when you expect to be able to return to work.


All periods of sickness absence must be covered by a sickness self-certification form. It is important that the completed form indicates actual days of sickness, even if they include days when you would not normally have worked (e.g. weekends and public holidays). 24-7 Prayer may conduct a return to work interview to discuss your absence and illness.


For sickness absence of up to 7 calendar days, you should complete the self-certification upon your return to work and submit it to your line manager.


For sickness absence of more than 7 calendar days, you must also provide a medical certificate. Subsequent medical certificates must be produced as necessary to cover the total duration of the period of absence.


Sick Pay


You are entitled to 14 days full sick pay in any one year and 28 weeks Statutory Sick Pay (SSP) in any three year period.


You will forfeit entitlement to company sick pay if:-

  • You fail to comply with notification and certification requirements;
  • You make or produce any misleading or untrue statement or document concerning your fitness to work;
  • Your incapacity has been caused by participation in dangerous sports or activities.

Prolonged or Persistent Absence


While 24-7 Prayer will be sympathetic to cases of genuine illness or incapacity, prolonged or persistent absence may be investigated.


Where there is concern for an employee’s health and his/her ability to carry out their work, 24-7 Prayer reserves the right to seek medical opinion(s) by asking the employee to agree to:-


  • Undergo an independent medical examination; and/or
  • The obtaining of a report from the employee’s own doctor.


The direct cost of obtaining such medical opinion(s) will be met by 24-7 Prayer.


Maternity/Paternity/Adoption Leave


24-7 Prayer will provide all statutory leave for parental absence including birth/adoption leave and caretaking leave. Please provide as much notice as possible to your line manager if you will be requiring leaves.


Other Absence


If you are uncertain about any other type of absence you must ask for advice from your manager. Other types of absence may be covered by other company policies and procedures and/or by statutory rights. Unauthorised absence is likely to be treated as a serious disciplinary offense.
