READING BOILER ROOM

These are sample job descriptions used at Reading Boiler Room before it closed in June 2005. These three roles formed a day to day team running the Boiler Room and reported to a wider management group.

Venue Director

Venue director forms part of weekly leadership team with Pastoral and Development directors

Role Description

The post holder will be co-ordinator of the building, what goes on it and it’s upkeep. Key responsibilities include:

· Planning for set up and use of the venue. Delegating tasks where necessary. · Management of the upkeep of the building, ensuring tasks are delegated and new areas of need actioned. · Handling enquiries from the public, bookings for use of rooms and staging of events. Being available as a general point of contact, on the phone and in the building. · Ensuring the prayer rooms are maintained and refreshed regularly. Developing strategy, themes and approach. · Compiling or maintaining internal policies on fire, health and safety and venue. · Providing link with 24-7 prayer, providing reporting to 24-7’s International and UK bases where required. · In association with Pastoral Director and team in putting together a regular programme for the Boiler Room. · Regular liaison with Finance team and implementing of financial priorities in venue.


Pastoral Director

Pastoral director forms part of weekly leadership team with Venue and Development directors

Role Description:

The post holder will be responsible for the pastoral and spiritual needs of those attending and those involved in the Boiler Room and for their development. Key tasks include:

· Spending time with people and on pastoral needs arising in the Boiler Room. · Training and personal development of team, Wild Geese and volunteers. · Compiling or maintaining internal policies relating to Good Practice and pastoral issues. · Developing links with local churches and groups. · Developing a regular programme for the Boiler Room with the Venue Director. · Development of resources with Communications team.


Development Director

Development director forms part of weekly leadership team with Pastoral and Venue directors

Role Description:

The post holder will be responsible for managing outreach work and new projects aimed at reaching the community. Key tasks include:

· Development of work with young people and students. · Development of links with local business, particularly partnering with Reading at work. · Development of links with local community (e.g. schools) and with local authority groups (e.g. Youth Offending team). · Management of volunteers helping with mission or outreach work. · Compiling or maintaining policies with regard to safety and principles in outreach work. · Planning of activities, ensuring good practice. · Compiling and submitting for funding requests or requests for support, where necessary. · Emphasis on relational work, giving time for building relationships and building friendships. · Developing of mission element of Boiler Rooms six values.
